Achilles enthesitis on physical examination leads to worse outcomes after 2 years of follow up in patients with ankylosing spondylitis from REGISPONSER-AS registry. In patients with AS, the presence of Achilles' tendon enthesitis was associated with worse scores on the outcome measures after 2 years of follow-up, leading to a lower probability of achieving low disease activity. |
Hypertension contributes to exacerbated osteoarthritis pathophysiology in rats in a sex-dependent manner. In females, this trend held true only in OA animals (normotensive vs hypertensive p = 0.005). These data provide preliminary evidence that hypertension influences OA progression and encourages further study into the autonomic nervous system as a possible mechanism. |

A Phase II randomised controlled trial of oral prednisolone in early diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis (PRedSS). PRedSS was terminated early primarily due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and so was underpowered. Therefore, interpretation must be cautious and results considered inconclusive, indicating the need for a further randomised trial. |
An international survey of current management practices for polymyalgia rheumatica by general practitioners and rheumatologists. This large international survey indicates that a large proportion of people with PMR are not referred for diagnosis, and that the proportion of treatment naïve patients declined with increasing time from referral to assessment. Strategies are needed to change referral and management of people with PMR, to improve clinical practice and facilitate recruitment to clinical trials. |
