| Bidirectional longitudinal associations between adiposity and emotional and uncontrolled eating in an observational UK population-based cohort.
Findings challenge assumptions that UE and EE are drivers of adult weight gain and instead suggest that higher adiposity may contribute to the development or escalation of dysregulated eating behaviours. Interventions may benefit from addressing the behavioural and psychological consequences of higher body weight alongside traditional weight-focused strategies. |
| Declines in Plasma Erythritol and Improvements in Cardiovascular Risk and Atherogenic Lipid Profiles: A 2-Year Randomized Weight-Loss Dietary Intervention Trial.
Declines in plasma erythritol levels in response to weight-loss dietary interventions were associated with improvements in ASCVD risk estimates and atherogenic lipid subtypes containing apoC-III. These findings highlight the potential role of changes in plasma erythritol levels in relation to improvements in cardiometabolic risk among adults with overweight or obesity. |
| Effects of a self-selected vegetarian vs. omnivorous diet on protein intake and muscle mass in older adults during resistance exercise: the IMPACT randomized controlled trial.
Protein intake was lower in the vegetarian group and non-inferiority for appendicular muscle mass was not demonstrated. Yet, both groups achieved a protein intake of ≥1.2 g/kg/d and improved muscle mass, strength, and function during resistance training. |
| From mouth to colon: a framework for engineering food matrices to engage the satiety cascade and endogenous GLP-1 signalling.
Treating structural digestibility as a measurable variable, the analysis draws on in vivo evidence linking matrix architecture to ileal escape, transit, colonic fermentation and intake, while making explicit where that evidence is strong and where - particularly for colonic signalling in humans - it remains unproven. It sets out what must be established for multi-site, food-based appetite engineering to become testable and, ultimately, clinically useful. |
| Peanuts-derived plasma lipids and lower risk of type-2 diabetes: Association mediated by body mass index. An intervention and case-cohort study.
Peanut consumption induces changes in the circulating lipidome, largely involving VLCSFA-containing lipids, that are associated with lower T2D risk partly through BMI. These results highlight peanuts as a source of dietary fats that may be linked to lower risk of T2D. Clinical trial registry The ARISTOTLE study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, approved by the Ethics Committee of Clinical Investigation of the University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain, on 1 October 2019), and registered at (accessed on 2 April 2026). |
| Trends in the Quality and Processing of Plant-Based Diets in U.S. Youth: A Serial Cross-Sectional Analysis of NHANES, 1999-2020.
Plant-based diet quality scores modestly improved among youth, but sociodemographic differences persisted. Healthy and unhealthy plant-based dietary patterns were strongly associated with UPF intake, underscoring the importance of considering diet quality, food processing, and structural determinants of diets and health. |

| Revisiting the role of lymphatics in Crohn's disease.
These observations support an alternative view of CD in which intestinal lymphatic dysfunction plays an under-recognized role in both promoting and sustaining inflammation. This framework may explain disease features (patchy distribution, transmural inflammation, mesenteric hypertrophy) and positions the lymphatic system as a therapeutic target to restore drainage and modulate immune-lymphatic crosstalk. |

| Effectiveness and safety of tacrolimus versus infliximab as rescue therapy for intravenous corticosteroid-refractory acute severe ulcerative colitis: a multicenter cohort study.
Tacrolimus demonstrated comparable effectiveness and safety to infliximab as rescue therapy for IVCS-refractory ASUC, although early response was slower. |
| Orofacial granulomatosis associated with Crohn's disease: clinical phenotype and response to biologics and Janus kinase inhibitor therapy in a large multi-center cohort.
OFG is associated with a distinct CD phenotype characterized by frequent UGI and perianal involvement. Advanced therapies, including anti-TNF, anti-IL23, and JAKi therapies, are effective, with evidence supporting dose optimization. |
| Self-expandable metal stents versus endoscopic balloon dilatation for the treatment of strictures in Crohn's disease: a retrospective long-term follow-up of the ProtDilat study, an open label, multicenter, randomized trial.
Endoscopic approaches (especially EBD) are effective long-term therapies for avoiding surgery and requiring few endoscopic treatments. Stable medical management and single EBD therapy were independently associated with a lower likelihood of surgery during follow-up. Our findings also highlight the higher frequency and severity of adverse events associated with surgical intervention compared to endoscopic management. |
| Targeting epithelial IFN-I signaling restores barrier integrity in anti-TNF refractory Crohn's disease.
TNF-IFN-I crosstalk drives epithelial dysfunction in CD. Elevated epithelial IFN-I genes distinguish anti-TNF non-responders and underlie differential therapeutic responses. Together, this work supports integration of epithelial IFN-I gene expression and patient-derived ex vivo functional testing into treatment decisions for CD patients. |
| Upadacitinib treatment in pediatric Crohn's disease: 52-week outcomes of an international multicenter retrospective cohort study from the pediatric IBD Porto Group of ESPGHAN.
Upadacitinib is an effective maintenance therapy for refractory pediatric CD. Effectiveness should be weighed against the potential risks of AEs. |

| Beyond graft survival: Health literacy is associated with patient-reported health after liver transplantation.
Transplant recipients displayed reduced health literacy, and post-transplant health literacy was strongly associated with better patient-reported physical and mental health. These findings identify health literacy as a modifiable dimension of long-term transplant survivorship and support its assessment in post-transplant care. |
| Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy is independently associated with peri-transplant acute kidney injury in biliary atresia - a hepato-cardio-renal link.
BA patients face high morbidity peri-LT in the setting of prevalent AKI. The association between pediatric CCM with AKI suggests cardiac dysfunction may be an independent risk factor of HRS-AKI. While studies are needed to further define the relationship between CCM and renal injury, pre-LT echocardiogram has the potential to facilitate timely identification and management of children at risk for HRS-AKI, and thereby promote renal recovery. |
| MELD-based allocation disproportionately prioritizes alcohol-associated hepatitis for liver transplant.
Of individual MELD components, serum sodium was not associated with AAH waitlist mortality (HR=1.01; p=0.53), while INR was a stronger predictor of mortality in AAH than other LT indications (HR=1.95 for AAH vs HR=1.14 for other ALD vs HR=1.23 for non-ALD; al p<0.001). Patients with AAH are disproportionately prioritized under the current organ allocation system, underscoring the need to revise allocation practices to ensure equitable LT access. |
| Portal vein thrombosis increases short-term mortality among hospitalized patients with cirrhosis in a global cohort.
PVT affects one in ten patients in a global inpatient cirrhosis cohort, and independently predicts short-term mortality and major complications, identifying a high-risk subgroup requiring intensified inpatient and post-discharge care. |
| Spatial biology of liver transplantation: Mapping injury, immunity, and repair in the allograft.
Translation into clinical practice will require longitudinal sampling and harmonized workflows, and will be significantly enhanced by integration with artificial intelligence-driven analytics. Ultimately, spatially resolved molecular signatures may improve donor assessment, enable early risk stratification, and guide precision interventions, advancing a biology-informed approach to liver transplantation. |
| Total intravenous versus volatile anesthesia in living donor hepatectomy: A global prospective cohort study from the international LDLT registry.
Our findings suggest an association between TIVA use and improved outcomes in living liver donors, with reduced morbidity in multivariable analysis accounting for transplant center and socioeconomic status of the countries where data originated. Further evaluation of this association with large scale international multicenter randomized trials is warranted. |
